The Hayden Fingering System

The Hayden Fingering System

From the Summer 1986 issue of the Australian _Concertina Magazine_:

                             Extreme Treble notes.

                        Bb C D
                     Eb F G A B C#
                  Ab Bb C D E F# G#
                     Eb F G A B C# D#
                  Ab Bb C D E F# G#
                     Eb F G A B C# D#
                        Bb C D E F# G#
                                A B C#
                              Bass notes
                     +----------------------------+
                     | Palm Rest |
                     +----------------------------+

Note that this is missing the slight tilt to the right to allow the buttons to directly map onto the staff, and the addition of the lines of the staff to help tell in which octave you are. Notice that you have a repeated pattern:

The above is an ASCII representation of the pattern of the buttons on a Hayden sytem duet. It can represent either the right hand or the left hand end. They will be the same, except that the left hand end will probably have fewer total notes, just because of the limits of how many reeds of the lower pitch will fit in a given space.

I've left the background off of this, to make the text showing the keyboard layout more legible.
